Oprah Winfrey Shares Her Weight-Loss Journey
Co-producer of "The Color Purple" and cultural icon Oprah Winfrey reveals for the first time in PEOPLE's latest cover story that she is taking a GLP-1 drug to lose weight.
Winfrey, 70, shares how she used weight-loss medication, regular exercise and nutrition to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Winfrey interviewed people who have lost large amounts of weight on GLP-1 drugs, along with executives and paid medical consultants from the pharmaceutical companies that make them.
Winfrey, who has struggled with her weight for decades, famously losing 67 pounds with a liquid diet in 1988 and then regaining the weight, said she has been taking the GLP-1 drug Wegovy for two years and has lost 97 pounds.
She said she also follows a healthy diet and exercise plan, and credits the drug with helping her to control her cravings and feel fuller longer.
Winfrey's decision to share her weight-loss journey is a powerful reminder that weight loss is a complex issue with many factors, including genetics, metabolism, and lifestyle.
It is also a reminder that there are many different ways to lose weight and that there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
