Substitute Mattia Zaccagni struck deep into stoppage time to send Italy into the last 16 of Euro 2024 following a dramatic 1-1 draw with 10-man Croatia on Thursday. Croatia must wait to discover whether they qualify for the round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed teams.

This will be Croatia and Italy's third meeting at a major tournament, all taking place in the group stages. Croatia won 2-1 at the 2002 FIFA World Cup before a goalless draw at UEFA EURO 2012 that saw the Italians top the group and the Croatians eliminated.
